Our Teams

Gotham currently fields three competitive lines; Masters, Open Adult, and Open Masters. Each team is unique and varies in levels of difficulty, required on and off ice practices, and number of competition performances.

  • Masters is a team of 12-20 skaters all over the age of 25. Our Masters focus throughout the season on developing their skating skills in an effort to put forth a fun and challenging competitive program.

    The Masters season consists of weekly on-ice practice, periodic skills and boot camp sessions, and recommended strength and conditioning exercises to improve individual skating skills and fitness.

  • Open adult is a team of 8-16 skaters all over the age of 18. Our Open Adult skaters focus on enhancing their skating skills and expression to put together a fun and dynamic program each season.

    The Open Adult season consists of weekly on-ice practice, periodic skills and boot camp sessions, and recommended strength and conditioning exercises to improve individual skating skills and fitness.

  • Open Masters is a team of 8-20 skaters all over the age of 25. Our Open Masters skaters focus on basic skating skills in an effort to put forth a clean and exciting skate at competition.

    The Open Masters season consists of monthly on-ice practice, periodic weekend boot camps, occasional off-ice sessions, and recommended strength and conditioning exercises to improve individual skating skills and fitness.

Coaching & Support Staff

Gotham City Synchro is committed to creating the best possible skating experience for all of our athletes. Whether it’s your first year of synchro or you have competed at the international level, you have a place on the ice and can expect expert coaching and a supportive environment. Our staff is uniquely positioned to coach adult athletes with a focus on basic skating skills, synchro techniques, and teamwork.

Kata Junninen
  • Kata is our Finnish reinforcement who joined the Gotham coaching staff in 2024 and is currently co-head coach in the Open Adult and Masters divisions.

    She started skating at 3 years old in Finland and has represented both Finland, Sweden, and Team USA on the Senior level. She finished her career representing the World Team in the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons.

    Kata has earned several National and International medals and earned a reputation for her powerful expression and performance skills. Her passion for performance and technique runs strong in her coaching and choreography and choreographing philosophy.

  • Melanie joined the Gotham City Synchro coaching staff in 2016 and served as Program Director from 2018-2021. Melanie is a USFS Accredited Level 2 Synchronized Skating coach with a thorough background in IJS coaching, having coached with various organizations at the Pre-Juvenile, Open Juvenile, Masters, Adult, Novice and Junior levels, including as an Assistant Coach to the 2022 U.S. Junior Champions. She competed for many years as a skater, including with the Lexettes representing Team USA, and is a U.S. National Medalist. She also holds a Bachelor of Music degree from New York University.

Helen Weselcouch Terry
  • Helen started skating with Gotham City Synchro in 2012 and joined the coaching staff in 2022.

    Originally from Connecticut, Helen has extensive synchro experience having skated on Team Esprit and then Skyliners for their inaugural three seasons including the first Skyliners Junior line.

  • Grace joined the Gotham City Synchro coaching staff in 2024. Originally from Philadelphia, Grace began synchronized skating with Philadelphia Symmetry at age 11 and competed for eleven years at nearly every level from Pre-Juvenile through Senior. Her skating career included a season with Les Suprêmes in Montreal and three years with Miami University Varsity Synchronized Skating.

    Grace is a four-time national medalist and three-time sectional champion in synchronized skating. While at Miami University, she served as captain of the 2015–16 Junior team and received the Outstanding Skater Award. She was also recognized with the Team Spirit Award during her senior year on the Collegiate team. Outside of the rink, Grace works for Major League Soccer. 

Meghan Crocker
  • Meghan joined the Gotham City Synchro coaching staff in 2020 as an assistant coach and earned the role of Head Coach, Qualifying Lines, in 2022.

    Originally from Boston, Meghan skated with Hayden Synchronized Skating Teams for nine years and represented Team USA for three of those years while a member of the Lexettes and the Haydenettes. Meghan has received several National titles and World medals while a member of the Haydenettes and in her final competitive season, Meghan received the ‘Coaches Award’ from Head Coach Saga Krantz. Meghan has continued to be an active member of the synchronized skating community through internships and guest coaching opportunities.

  • PRESIDENT

    Alex joined Gotham City Synchro in 2013 and has skated in every division the team has fielded over the past decade.  He was the first ever GCS cross-skater and has loved contributing to the growth of the team.  Shortly after joining, he became the Team Manager and now serves as the organization's President.  Alex is proud to support, lead, and foster NYC's longest running synchro program.

  • TREASURER

    Aneilia joined Gotham City Synchro in 2022 and has loved becoming part of the team's welcoming and dedicated community. She has served as treasurer since 2026. Aneilia grew up competing in synchronized skating in Massachusetts and is thrilled to bring that love of the sport to her role with Gotham.

  • TEAM LIAISON

    Yuriko joined Gotham City Synchro in 2016 after skating with the Princeton University Synchronized Skating Team. She has enjoyed being part of Gotham’s inclusive and supportive skating community. Yuriko is excited to act as Team Liaison, supporting communication and coordination across the team.

Where we like to hang out

For over a decade our home base has been the City Ice Pavilion in Long Island City, Queens. It’s easy to get to via many subway and bus routes and, lucky us, Westside Skate is located on-site so our skates are always sharp.
